Outlook Express can’t display some folders

May 30th, 2008

It seems that Outlook Express is an often headache for PC techs.

A usual problem is that sometimes it stops showing the contents of folders, saying that there was an error displaying the folder or something like this.

It usually happens when you have lots of e-mail messages in your folder. Sometimes if Outlook Express crashes, the files that hold each folder’s messages become corrupted. The next time you open O.E. these files can’t be read, causing the above error for all or several mail folders.

Resolution? Just do a scandisk on your system disk holding the operating system’s files. Right click on this disk, click Properties, Tools and then Check disk for errors. If the OS asks to check the disk the next time the system is rebooted, accept it and do a restart.

However, my suggestion is just don’t use Outlook Express for heavy e-mail traffic. It is a mail client only for personal use, not for company environments. If you want a trustworthy e-mail client, able to handle tons of messages without problems and crashes, use Mozilla Thunderbird or Microsoft Outlook included in MS Office suite.

What is Outlook Express error 0×800CCC0E

May 22nd, 2008

This is an issue that I have to deal every day with my users computers.

If you get the error code 0×800CC0E in Outlook Express it has to do with connection failure to the mail server. So try these steps:

- Verify that your Internet connection is working. If you have setup any proxy in Internet Explorer, verify it is correct and working.

- If you have an antivirus software with mail scan, verify that the mail scanner is working. Norton Antivirus and Trend Micro especially, are often causing this error. If you can’t get the mail scanner to work, try rebooting your computer.
